Short Description
The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling.
The player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people he cares about are counting on him.
The intense, real-time gameplay of Half-Life 2 is made possible only by Source®, Valve's new proprietary engine technology. Source provides major enhancements in:
Characters - Advanced facial animation system delivers the most sophisticated in-game characters ever seen. With 40 distinct facial "muscles," human characters convey the full array of human emotion, and respond to the player with fluidity and intelligence.
Physics - From pebbles to water to 2-ton trucks respond as expected, as they obey the laws of mass, friction, gravity, and buoyancy.
Graphics - Source’s shader-based renderer, like the one used at Pixar to create movies such as Toy Story® and Monster's, Inc.®, creates the most beautiful and realistic environments ever seen in a video game.
AI - Neither friends nor enemies charge blindly into the fray. They can assess threats, navigate tricky terrain, and fashion weapons from whatever is at hand.
You know why HL2 has a 3 out of 5 possible stars? STEAM!
I just finished a sweet new rig with a couple of 7800 GTX's in SLi, so I want to go try HL2. Over 700 meg DL for the demo, that's enough of a download in my opinion. The download finishes and I install "STEAMing pile" where IT proceeds to "update" the demo @ ~ 18K over my cable connection. It took longer to download the ~ 10M "update" through STEAMing pile than the 700+M file from FF.
So, I go surf for a little while, come back to check and the update is FINALLY done with "ready to play" by the demo in the STEAMing pile menu. I try the launch the game and I am stuck looking at yet ANOTHER "Updating Half Life 2 Demo" screen. It was at this point that I was actually mad enough to come post a comment on this feedback area.
What happened to downloading a huge file once and playing a demo? STEAMing pile has convinced me that I need to avoid purchasing the full game. There are just too many sweet FPS out there to deal the the drama of STEAMing pile![reply|quote]Wednesday, December 21, 2005 02:47 PM
