New Velvet Assassin Trailer Has Nazi-Killing Action

Wed, 09 Jul 2008 02:00:40 +0000

Hmm, smooth-looking stealth gameplay and hordes of Nazis for bad guys? Yep, Velvet Assassin already has two good points right off the bat. This new trailer shows off a few of the moves you’ll have at your disposal as you sneak through Nazi territory with an arsenal of moves reminiscent of Sam Fisher. There are a lot of ways this could go wrong in the final product, but I’m still a fan of killing Nazis.

A new patch for Metal Gear Online hit PS3s yesterday that added a few interesting new features to the game. Most noticeable is a new mode called “Team Sneaking,” which is a variation of the previous “Sneaking” mode. Rather than have just one person have Snake’s abilities, a whole team can use stealth tactics, while the other tries to eliminate them. There’s also an option available now for hosts called “Headshots Only.” With this option, damage and points will only register if you land a headshot. In fact, if you hit an opponents body, you’ll actually lose points as a result. This should add some extra variety to the online matches. Really though, I’d like to see some more maps and a better party system.

I have to admit, my enthusiasm for Mercenaries 2: World in Flames keeps bubbling up more and more with each new piece of media. This new trailer for the game highlights how you can choose your own tactics for completing an objective. You could sneak in quietly to apprehend your target, go in guns blazing, or just blow up everything from a distance. The choices are yours and yours alone! [Note: blatant Legends of the Hidden Temple quote]

If there’s one thing online gamers are good at, it’s examining every bit of information from a game for possible hidden clues. Now it looks like some eagle-eyed Gears of War fans may have discovered a clue to the sequel’s release date. It all stems from this splash image on the game’s website (and above) that shows a COG soldier holding a dog tag (or “COG tag,” I suppose). The dog tag in the picture reads “033-116-117-126-071″ (as does the image’s filename). Apparently, if you run that through an ASCII Table, you get the message “ESC NOV 9.” Anyone with a keyboard in front of them can probably guess that could translate to “Escape November 9.” That’s a bit too specific to be just a simple coincidence.
