Welcome to the Battlefield, soldier. The information contained in this document will help you on the field of combat. This document will provide additional information to what you receive in
game. Also if you are experiencing technical difficulties, look here for the most recent troubleshooting answers.

II. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS AND SUPPORTED CHIPSETS

In order to install and play Battlefield 2142, your system must meet or exceed the following minimum system requirements.
Operating system: Windows XP with latest service pack installed
DirectX 9.0c February 2006 edition (included)
CPU: Intel Pentium 4/AMD Athlon 1.7 GHz or equivalent
RAM: 512 MB
Video Card: 128MB DirectX compliant video card, Pixel shader 2.0 and above. (AGP and PCIe only)
Sound Card - DirectX 9.0c compatible
Hard Drive space: 2.2GB of space is required to install the game
Internet connection: 128kbit Cable/DSL connection
In order to play the game at the recommended resolution, detail and performance levels, your computer should match or exceed the following specifications:
Operating system: Windows XP with latest service pack installed

RAM: 1.5GB

Please note that attempting to play the game using video hardware that isn’t listed above may result in reduced performance, graphical issues or cause the game to not run at all.
X-Fi AUDIO PROVIDER
This option enables optimised hardware-accelerated 3D audio positioning, mixing and environmental effects for users with compatible Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi soundcards. The Ultra-high audio
quality level is only available with the X-Fi audio provider.
NOTE - This feature is only available on X-Fi soundcards with support for "Gaming Mode". X-Fi must be set to "Gaming mode". A guide to setting up your soundcard, plus details of compatible
hardware can be found at http://www.soundblaster.com
In order to play Battlefield 2142 online, you must have the following ports open in your firewall.

III. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
==============================
If you have purchased the game on media then follow the instructions below.
Upon inserting the game disc the auto run splash screen should appear. From this screen follow the prompts onscreen to complete the installation.
If the game does not auto run, open up “My Computer” and double click on the drive in which the disc is inserted.
Once the game has been successfully installed start the game by either double clicking the Battlefield 2142 icon on the desktop (if you selected this option during installation) or do the
following:
1. Click on the Windows Start button
2. Select All Programs
3. Select Electronic Arts
4. Select Battlefield 2142
5. Select the Battlefield 2142 icon
If you have purchased the game via the EA Downloader then follow the instructions as given on screen in the EA Downloader to install the game.
If you purchased the game via EA Downloader you must keep EA Downloader installed on your pc to play the game.

IV. NOTES ON COMPATIBILITY
==========================
Battlefield 2142 is designed to run on Windows XP compatible graphics and sound cards. Drivers for these devices are provided by the respective card manufacturer and may result in compatibility
issues beyond our control.
If you are experiencing any issues, it is always recommended that you obtain and install the latest drivers for your hardware. The majority of hardware vendors have the latest drivers available
for download via their websites.
If you are unsure of the manufacturer of your hardware follow the instructions below:
1. Click on the Windows Start button
2. Select All Programs
3. Select Electronic Arts
4. Select Easy Info
Easy Info will state the manufacturers’ name of your Graphics and sound card as well as other useful information regarding your computer.
On the Easy Info screen the links for updating the drivers will direct you to the EA support site which contains links to all major manufacturers and hardware vendors.
Most issues can be resolved by updating hardware drivers and is always recommended.
Notice: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some DVD-ROM, DVD-RW and virtual drives.

V. KNOWN ISSUES AND TROUBLESHOOTING
====================================
EA performs a server maintenance every week on Tuesdays at 09:00 till 11:00 GMT as a result you will be unable to log into Battlefield 2142 during this period.
CHANGING DISPLAY MODE
Occasionally on some video cards you may be allowed to set the display mode to one not supported by your computer. This will result in a black screen being shown. To remedy this use the Windows
Explorer to find and delete the directory:
My DocumentsBattlefield 2142Profiles
This will reset your game to the default settings. You can now start the game, retrieve or create a new profile, and re-adjust the settings using the Menu as normal.
Players with SoundMAX HD Audio integrated chipsets may experience crackling and popping audio during game play, if you are experiencing this please ensure you have the latest hardware drivers
installed (see IV. NOTES ON COMPATIBILITY)
Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running Battlefield 2142. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update.
Task switching is not fully supported while running Battlefield 2142. If you use functions such as Alt-Tab and other variations then you may experience problems.
The following sound cards do not support hardware audio renderer option:

VI. BATTLERECORDER
===================
Below are the commands that can be used while playing back a Battlerecorded file
As well as using the 'Q' and 'T' keys to control the playback of a recording, you can also use a set of keyboard shortcuts:
- Keys 1 - 9
Change the playback speed.
- Toggle Free Camera / Player Camera
Alt Fire Key. By default this is the Right Mouse Button.
While in free camera mode:
- W, A, S, D
Move forwards, backwards, strafe left and right.
- Double Tap W
Move camera quickly. Alternatively you can hold the Sprint key.
- Crouch / Prone
Move camera up and down.
- Mouse
Rotate camera.
While in the player follow camera mode:
- Space bar
Next / previous player.
- W and A or the mouse scroll wheel
Zoom camera in and out.
- Crouch / Prone
Tilt the camera up and down.
- Mouse
Rotate camera around the player.
